Now that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has fallen behind Ben Carson in the Iowa and national polls, the mogul is beginning to beg voters to get him back up in the numbers.
“Iowa, will you get your numbers up, please?” he pleaded to a crowd in Sioux City, where he made his first stop in Iowa since recent polls showed him falling behind retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson. “I promise you, I will do such a good job.”
Trump had led the GOP pack in Iowa until last week. But an Iowa Poll conducted by The Des Moines Register and Bloomberg Politics put Carson at 28% and Trump at 19%, and other polls have reported a similar reversal in fortune.
The problem with Trump’s TV personality approach is that even though that kind of popularity rises quickly, it disappears just as fast. Celebrity can help, to an extent. But people are fickle about celebrities, and Trump may be running out of gas soon.
It won’t be too much longer before Donald Trump loses steam and simply becomes a parody of himself. His main draw is that he gives a different flavor to the GOP race, which is usually stuffy and boring. Trump’s poll numbers aren’t support for him as a candidate, it reflects people’s need for entertainment.
