Social news media is getting bigger in this technological age. Less people trust large corporate media organizations like CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC, and more are going to independent outlets. The Young Turks is on the forefront.
Cenk Uygur, founder of TYT, leads a two-hour nightly news bulletin that takes an honest, progressive look into current events. Formally of MSNBC, Uygur turned down $1 million from the network to become a full-time anchor.
TYT is now one of the most-watched online news groups in the world. Uygur has remained true to his anti-corporate media tenets and blames Fox News for creating a culture of media mistrust.
“Fox News say they are fair and balanced and it’s so preposterous that it’s over-the-top Orwellian. It’s almost an effort to get you to stop believing everyone.” Fox has so “poisoned the well” that viewers are cynical of all TV news, he said. “It’s a brilliant move by [Fox News president] Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch, who have no intention of being fair and balanced ever.”
The main demographic of network television news viewers are dying out, which will give more room to independent news outlets to give honest analysis of the world. The Young Turks are leading the way.
