According to a new survey, most Americans who know about climate change simply aren’t concerned with it, despite it being a crucially threatening issue. More people know about useless celebrity culture than they do about important things.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted a poll in mid-October and found that two-thirds of all Americans accept climate change science and say humans are causing it. However, less than 25 percent of Americans are at all concerned with climate change. This is a major problem.
The reason is that many American don’t see climate change as a major voting issue. Thirty-six percent of Americans see climate change as a moral issue.
“The big deal is that climate has not been a voting issue of the American population,” said Dana Fisher, director of the Program for Society and the Environment at the University of Maryland. “If the American population were left to lead on the issue of climate, it’s just not going to happen.”
Climate change is a big issue, but because Americans don’t usually care about something unless it’s immediate they’ll pay hardly any attention to it.
