Newly christened Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said Tuesday morning that there is a need for a “pause” in accepting Syrian Refugees and that he hopes legislation proposing such a pause will be put before the house by the end of the week.

Ryan is clearly buckling under the pressures of the many mostly Republican senators demanding that refugees not be brought into their states. The Speaker said that during this halt, a task force would be formed which would be “tasked with figuring out the best way for the U.S. to address the Syrian refugee crisis both in the short and long term.”

What is being put forth as a pause will inevitably morph into a complete dead end for refugees who are in need now, not later.
