When Lauren Jones met with her bosses after reporting sexual assault by one of her managers, she made a wise decision to secretly record the interaction with her cell phone. What she caught in the audio was clear evidence that the assault was being covered up and she was being fired for reporting the violation.

Jones claimed that she did not want the man fired or arrested, but that she just wanted the situation to be handled internally.

“I specifically told him I’m not looking for a lawsuit, I’m not looking for anything. If we can handle in the four walls of Sonny’s, I’m ok with that.”

That wasn’t the resolution she was to receive however as she was told that her 1 month employment versus the accused man’s 15 year employment meant that the owner of the Charlotte franchise did not believe her story.

“All I want here is to be on record that he did touch me.”

“Well we can’t accept that… It is on record, but I don’t accept it.”

“We don’t want you to quit. We’re terminating you.”
