No stranger to unfounded claims or cringe-inducing impressions, Senator Ted Cruz combined the two while campaigning in Milford, New Hampshire, when he attempted to trade his country twang for a Boston accent and preposterously claimed JFK would be a Republican today.
This isn’t the first time Cruz has attempted to spin Kennedy’s legacy to support his own agenda.
“JFK campaigned on tax cuts, limiting government and standing up and defeating Soviet communists.”
“JFK would be a Republican today. He stood for religious liberty, and he would be tarred and feathered by the modern Democratic Party.”
He followed the idiotic argument with a quote delivered in the most uncomfortable of impressions saying,
“’Some men see things as they are and ask, Why? I see things that never were and ask, why not?’ These are the principles that work.”
Moving past the fact that his supporting quote is more closely associated with Robert Kennedy, who cited George Bernard Shaw for it, anyone with an elementary understanding of politics or history can see that Cruz’s argument is downright wrong. What’s more, his corruption and exploitation of JFK’s legacy is nauseating.
Though maddening, there’s a humorous touch of irony in the idea of a Grandpa Munster look-alike trying to imitate one of history’s most charismatic leaders. Enjoy.
