Will crazed former Alaskan Governor and 2008 Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin be turning in her vote for a fellow conservative clown? You betcha!
Palin confirmed Tuesday in an Iowa campaign event that she has thrown her support behind GOP front-runner Donald Trump, saying that she is “proud to endorse” Trump.
“I am greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement. She is a friend, and a high quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support,” says Trump.
Palin’s support might prove important for the candidate particularly in the upcoming Iowa vote, where he’s currently neck and neck with Ted Cruz.
Having been vocal in support of Cruz throughout his career, the endorsement from Palin could be seen as a snub. After dismissing rumors of the alliance, adding he would be “a big, big fan” of Palin no matter what, Cruz’s campaign issued a response to her opposing commendation.
“I think it’d be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion for the conservative cause, and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly, she would be endorsing someone who’s held progressive views all their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion,” spokesperson Rick Tyler said.
Palin responded via twitter, linking a blog post written by her daughter Bristol Palin criticizing the comment and supporting her mother’s faith in Trump, asking “Is THIS Why People Don’t like Cruz?”
Though both Trump and Cruz both have a combative history with Palin’s former running mate John McCain, it seems Palin was able to overlook Trump’s comments about the former POW not being a war hero, and had no qualms supporting the wigged Cheeto.
Coincidentally, Palin and Trump also share a common connection through Michael Glassner, Trump’s political director who worked on the campaign trail for the failed VP candidate in 2008.
Here’s hoping Glassner delivers the same quality of results this year.
