“Fox and Friends” invited two military members to the show in order to have a discussion about whether or not the military should be working to better integrate women into the armed services by changing things like uniforms and official titles in order to be more inclusive.
Retired Navy Seal Carl Higbie completely missed the point and predictably bemoaned the fact that the “P.C. push” was somehow taking precedence over fighting ISIS, despite the fact that the Marine Veteran and woman Anu Bhagwati sitting next to him expressed that she “absolutely” felt unwelcome during her time in uniform.
Bhagwati explained that the small changes in military terms would not inhibit fighting terrorism in any way, but Higbie continued to hammer on the same point. Higbie is apparently uncomfortable with the growing role for women in the former boy’s club, and for him to exaggerate the effects that changing a few terms might have is just more of the same from close-minded Fox subscribers.
If these women want to put their lives on the line, they deserve to be addressed by a proper title fitting to their station.
For too many years, the default in society has been “man,” and women are tired of having to take on the title that does not include them. It is a simple change, and one that should be made immediately.
