During an intimate town hall meeting in New Hampshire, Republican contender John Kasich was asked what his vision of space exploration might be. Rather than address the very legitimate question, Kasich made a joke which devolved into an tone deaf rendition of “Space Oddity.”

While we have to give kudos to Kasich for making a sweet Bowie reference, the musical interlude completely ignores the important question posed by the audience-member. Man’s endeavors into space are an integral part of the furthering of our existence, and a great deal of knowledge and advancement is to be found every time we expand our territory further outside of the atmosphere. Republicans particularly seem disinterested in investing in space, so it would have certainly been interesting to hear Kasich’s serious response.
