On Thursday when presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed that his multi-year tax audits was what prevented him from releasing the records that Mitt Romney was calling for, many guessed that Trump was simply making excuses.
“I’m just going to put you people to rest: Until my audit is finished, very simple, you are not going to see anything.”
On Friday, The IRS dispelled Trump’s comments when they released a statement saying that “Nothing prevents individuals from sharing their own tax information.” Though it might be wiser to wait, the IRS advised.
And as for Trump’s claims that it is his strong religious faith that caused his frequent audits? Total bull.
“The IRS stresses that audits of tax returns are based on the information contained on the taxpayer’s return and the underlying tax law – nothing else. Politics and religion do not factor into this. The audit process is handled by career, non-partisan civil servants, and we have processes in place to safeguard the exam process.”
IRS officials also questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s claim that he had been audited close to twelve times, saying that such a frequent inspection would be “rare.”
So out with it, Trump. The IRS isn’t stopping you and the American people are getting impatient.
