With less than a week until Ohio’s primary election on March 15, Senator Bernie Sanders is joining with 5 other defendants in a case against the state of Ohio for barring 17-year-olds from participating in the primary event.
Previously, Ohio and many other states have allowed teens who will be 18 by election day to take part in the primary event so that they have a say in the candidates they will be choosing from in November.
Senator Sanders and others are alleging that Ohio Secretary of State Jon A. Husted is misinterpreting current law to bar young voters, which the campaign alleges is disproportionately black and Latino. Young voters tend to skew towards Senator Sanders.
