The story of the migrant workers in Immokalee, Florida is the story of countless farm workers across America. They come from Mexico or other South American nations to create a better life for themselves and their families but what they often discover is that conditions can be abusive, cruel, and inhumane.
In this five minute video, the focus is on one Mexican family and the mother’s advocacy and struggle. It is only in the last quarter of the advertisement that Bernie Sanders is brought up, and it is revealed that through his personal observation and advocacy for the immigrant workers of Immokalee, working conditions have improved and wages have grown.
It is a touching story of the very real effect that politicians and government can have on people’s lives when people – not corporations – are put first.
