During Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver discussed the excessive use of credit checks for much more than credit.

In particular, Oliver looked at the shocking fact that as many as half of employers in the U.S. check potential employee’s credit history and score before they consider hiring. Oliver found several instances of these sorts of required credit checks on jobs listed on Craigslist, including one that was for a guy running a fireworks stand.

To be frank, employers have no business checking employee’s private credit history as there is no actual correlation between a credit score and their job performance.
