In a curiously timed comment, president Barack Obama gave a bit of lip service to the Bernie Sanders campaign on Friday when he praised the senator for the way he has run his campaign.
The president was referring to Bernie’s grassroots type of campaign and his staunch refusal to accept SuperPAC money. Bizarrely, the president tried to take credit for this idea, saying that Sanders’ promise built off of Obama’s own campaign of small contributions.
The laughable nature of the comment doesn’t end there, though, as the president criticized Citizen’s United but did not say a word toward repealing the law which he says led to a cynical view of American politics.
If you, as the president, feel a law is interfering with Democracy, why wouldn’t you want to publicly call for its repeal? We all know that Obama, like the rest of them, has benefited endlessly from PACs, corporate interests, and Wall Street money, but what does he have to lose at this point?
The president has done so many good things in so many avenues, but he continues to let us down in this most important arena. No brief mention of Sanders as his campaign is all but doomed will make us forget that.
Far too little, far too late, once again.
