There’s no guarantee of where your career will go if Trump fails to reach the presidency, but many a nameless pundit is finding lucrative infamy on cable news after giving heartfelt endorsements of Donald Trump.
This infamy is mostly due to corporate news’ endless efforts to provide a two-sided view of every issue. With more respectable Republican pundits, bowing down to Trump is impossible, at least at this point, so the few who do offer full support are few and far between. That means that lesser known pundits like Scottie Nell Hughes and Kayleigh McEnancy are getting an awful lot of airtime on CNN, MSNBC, and of course Fox News.
These pundits appear whenever a network needs someone to oppose a more reasonable anti-Trump viewpoint to avoid the appearance of a network bias, though all it does is give an open platform for mindless Trump-lovers to spread their ignorance.
Of course, some pundits have risen to national acclaim for their full-throated anti-endorsements of Trump like the one made by Wisconsin right-wing radio host Charlie Sykes who has been a vocal member of the #NeverTrump movement.
Even trying to stay neutral while Trump turns his critical eye upon you can win you quite a bit of attention as Fox News’ Megyn Kelly learned late last year. She is now considered by many to be the breakout star of the network after Trump mercilessly criticized her for asking him a pointed question about his treatment of women during a debate.
Whether they are opposing or supporting Trump, the notoriety of many network pundits rely heavily on their comments made about the Republican front-runner. Whether Trump wins or loses the presidency has a completely separate meaning for these pundits – his success or failure will mirror their own.
