Though for the majority of the Republican primary, presidential candidate Donald Trump has remained mostly silent about his proposed foreign Muslim ban, his pivot to the general election has included a lot more Muslim terror talk.
On Sunday, the GOP nominee opened up about what he thought of the Syrian refugees attempting to enter the country. Re-upping his previous comments calling for an all-out ban until “we can figure out what’s going on.” Trump said that he wholeheartedly believed that Syrian refugees coming to America will lead to more major terror attacks.
“Bad things will happen – a lot of bad things will happen. There will be attacks that you wouldn’t believe. There will be attacks by the people that are right now that are coming into our country, because, I have no doubt in my mind.”
Trump’s main reasoning for this ridiculous is the idea that he claims refugees have cell phones. Egads, right?! Well just in case you think having a cell phone is a crazy thing for an individual fleeing a war-torn country to do, feel free to read this article about how common cell phones are, even in third world countries.
“I mean you look at it, they have cell phones. So they don’t have money, they don’t have anything. They have cell phones. Who pays their monthly charges, right? They have cell phones with the flags, the ISIS flags on them. And then we’re supposed to say, ‘isn’t this wonderful that we’re taking them in?’ We’re led by people that are either incompetent or they don’t have the best interest of our country at heart.”
For the most part, the draw for many Americans to crowd around Trump’s hateful rhetoric is slowly dying as fears fanned from the recent attack in San Bernardino and the massacre in Paris has slowly died down.
Trump is seeking to remind voters that they should be afraid, no, terrified of the threat of terror. Fear is the Republican brand, and no one has ever needed to take advantage of that fear more than Trump.
