John McCain, once a respected war hero and Republican, has shown us many times since his infamous choice of Sarah Palin as V.P. in 2008 that he has less than steady judgement.
Which is why it wasn’t much of a surprise when McCain sided with Trump on the issue of whether or not President Obama were to blame for the Orlando shooting. McCain made the suggestion earlier this week when he said that Obama’s policies directly led to the shooting.
“Barack Obama is directly responsible for it, because when he pulled everybody out of Iraq, al-Qaeda went to Syria, became ISIS, and ISIS is what it is today thanks to Barack Obama’s failures.”
Considering that Trump had just recently made similar comments, particularly suggesting that Obama is a secret Muslim and might have “other motives,” it was hard to read McCain’s misguided comments as being much different from the Republican nominee he dislikes.
Apparently a lot of Americans feel the same way about McCain’s off-color remarks and donations have been pouring in for his Arizona senatorial opponent Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick. Over $100,000 has poured in so far since McCain made the comment – a hefty chunk of change against the incumbent candidate.
This is something we can expect to see echoed across the nation as Republican candidates are dragged down by the reputation of their Republican nominee. People like McCain are truly between a Trump and a hard place, but with the sh*t they’ve pulled in the past, there aren’t many people left to feel badly for them.
With a little luck, the tragedy of the Trump campaign will turn into a golden opportunity for Democrats in races everywhere as popular support turns against Trump-loving candidates.
