A group which calls themselves the Texas Nationalist Movement are attempting to capitalize the newsworthiness of Brexit in order to demand their own secession from the United States.
The press released put out on Friday morning calls on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to request the same vote be held in the interest of Texas in the hopes that the state could seceded completely from the country.

It should be noted that this organization has been working for some time to achieve this goal and are hoping that the major notariety of the Brexit vote will motivate Abbott to move forward on the illogical plan.
The TNM calls themselves the largest independence movement in the US and one of the largest. Their mission is motivated by the belief that “bureaucrats in Washington” have too much control over the state.
“We want to restore the power of self-government and self-determination back to the people of Texas. We believe that Texans are tired of being governed by bureaucrats in Washington that we didn’t elect forcing policies on us that we don’t want. We believe that the people that are best suited to make decisions for Texans are Texans.”
There are about a million and a half reasons why the two situations are miles apart, and the chances of Texas becoming a sovereign nation is laughable.
At last, a bit of levity during such a serious and news-heavy day.
