It looks like old Johnny Boy McCain may be echoing his losing spirit again in 2016 as the Republican senator is falling behind his opponent in recent polls.
McCain is the incumbent in the race, but that advantage seems to have disappeared as Democratic Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick takes a slight lead over the Senator.
Advocacy group MoveOn commissioned the study and it was conducted by Public Policy Polling. Out of the 750 Arizona voters surveyed, 43 percent supported Kirkpatrick while 41 percent supported McCain.
Interestingly enough, a large amount of the blame for McCain’s tenuous position lies at the feet of Republican nominee Donald Trump as Arizona enjoys a high concentration of hispanic citizens. Overwhelmingly, minorities do not approve of and refuse to vote for Donald Trump, and McCain’s association with the man is no doubt hurting his re-election chances.
We can expect to see echoes of this nationwide as Donald Trump actively taints the chances of other Republican down-ballot candidates in their own races.
In our best case scenario, Donald Trump doesn’t just get defeated in the general election, but he takes down the Republican party with him. This could result in a Democratic-majority house and senate, if we play our cards right.
