The moving speech from Khizr Khan, the Muslim father of a deceased war hero killed in action, was one of the most impactful from the Democratic convention.
Khan fearlessly took to the stage on that Thursday evening to share the story of his son’s life as well as appeal to voters to recognize the hatred inherent in Donald Trump’s campaign.
Khan asked the possible future president, “Have you even read the Constitution?”, before offering to allow the candidate to borrow his own copy which he was holding in his lapel pocket.
Khan returned to the political world on Friday to talk about his experiences and try to turn more people away from the cult of Trump.
On MSNBC, Khan focused foremost on trying to bring GOP leadership to their sense. Khan was near tears as he begged Speaker Paul Ryan, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and others to finally cast off Trump and repudiate the candidate once and for all.
“They have disagreed with his practices, his threats to minorities, disrespect to the legal system and legal institutions. I want to ask them, ‘If your candidate wins and he governs the way he has campaigned, this country, my country will have constitutional crises like never before in the history of this country.’”
“There is too much at stake and I appeal to both of these leaders. There comes a time in the history of a country when a moral stand must be taken, regardless of the political cost.”
