In today’s society, what happens on the internet almost never stays on the internet. Newly crowned Miss Teen USA Karlie Hay learned that this week when, shortly after she won the award, a few nosy internet-ers uncovered some pretty racist tweets from the young woman posted in 2014 and 2013.
Hay used the N-word pretty liberally throughout her posts, and has issued an apology for the “inexcusable” use of language. Hay said that she was going through a “number of personal struggles” at the time, and that through the pageant community, she has matured significantly.

The Miss Universe Organization issued a statement in response which said that Hay would be keeping her crown, despite the slurs.
“As Karlie stated, she was in a different place in her life and made a serious mistake she regrets and for which she sincerely apologizes. Karlie learned many lessons through those personal struggles that reshaped her life and values. We as an organization are committed to supporting her continued growth.”
In Trump’s America, this girl’s comments would be considered all-American patriotism.
