While we are trying our darnedest to cover Donald Trump less and other more important issues more, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t absolutely obligated to report when other right-wing weirdos like Maine Governor Paul LePage say something idiotic.

I first reported on LePage in January of this year when he made headlines for suggesting that black drug dealers with names like “shifty and smoothie” sneak their way across Maine state lines and impregnate nice, pure, white girls.

But LePage didn’t stop gaffe-ing there. Rather than keep his head down and get back to the business of GOP chicanery, LePage shot his mouth off once more later that month, this time suggesting that drug dealers (Smoothie again, Gov?) should be hung for their crimes, old fashioned-style.

Then in April, LePage resurfaced, this time freaking out on a group of protesters, calling them “idiots,” and storming off the stage.

In June, LePage reappeared to say that if his constituents were unhappy, they would have let him know. Just days later, LePage’s office was flooded with letters from disgruntled Mainers who wanted nothing more than to see him resign.

With so much stupid in only one year, it’s more than a bit ironic to see that LePage has some sage words of wisdom for Donald Trump, suggesting that he exercise some discipline in order to please leadership and win the presidency.

“I told him one word: discipline. He said, ‘what do you mean?’ I said, ‘from here on out, everybody’s gonna wanna try to trip you so you better have discipline. He said, ‘oh, I get it. I get it.’”

Not only doesn’t Trump “get it,” but LePage doesn’t either – it’s the blind leading the blind out there, and we are the ones who suffer.
