Taking a brief political break from his family vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, President Barack Obama took an evening to help fund-raise for Hillary Clinton’s campaign and speak, once more, about the high stakes of the election.
Echoing what most of the rest of us feel, the president said that he’s more than tired of talking about the elephant in the room – Donald Trump.
“Frankly I’m tired of talking about her opponent. I don’t have to make the case against her opponent because every time he talks, he makes the case against his own candidacy.”
Notice that the president didn’t even say the name of “her opponent,” but chose to focus the bulk of his remarks on the importance of his election and his belief that Clinton is by far the better candidate.
One thing that the president did not do, however, was diminish the very real threat inherent in losing this election.
“If we are not running scared until the day after the election, we are going to be making a grave mistake.”
Now, when some people hear this comment they will be a bit miffed, tired, as they always say, of the “fearmongering” coming from the establishment left. But the president is completely correct that if we do not remain vigilant, Trump may possibly win, and that will be a loss for all of us.
