As he has said many times, the fight for progressive issues did not end when Senator Bernie Sanders ended his candidacy for the presidency. In fact, now that he is out of the race, Sanders seems more energized than ever, creating several political and social institutions in order to encourage more grassroots candidates and work to progress liberal ideals all across the nation.
The most recent of these initiates comes in the wake of an Obamacare disaster as Aetna, one of the nation’s largest private insurers, makes plans to pull out of the program in 11 states. Re-stating what he has pushed for before, Sanders again railed against the current healthcare system, arguing that we cannot rely on the whims of the free market to determine the quality of health care we can offer citizens.
“In my view, the provision of health care cannot continue to be dependent upon the whims and market projections of large private insurance companies whose only goal is to make as much profit as possible. That is why we need to join every other major country on earth and guarantee health care to all as a right, not a privilege.”
Sanders said that he intends to re-introduce his legislation pushing for “Medicare-for-all” during the next Senate session, and maybe now, with full progressive support behind him, this initiate might get off the ground.
While our Democratic nominee may still be in favor of feckless incremental change, Sanders is still out there, fighting for the revolution.
