Senator Bernie Sanders spent some time during the online launch of Our Revolution to endorse the Colorado ballot measure up for vote in November which would create a true universal health care system.
A longtime opponent of Obamacare, the Senator seemed eager to support the ballot measure which could be the template of a nation-wide universal healthcare system, if successful.
“It is absurd, it is beyond belief, that here in America we remain the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care to all people. If that proposal can win in Colorado, I believe that idea will spread around the country.”
Proponents for the bill are hoping that this bit of lip-service might translate into campaigning by the senator for the ballot measure.
Owen Perkins, a spokesperson for the the ColoradoCareYES campaign, seemed hopeful that Sanders support for the measure would be a surefire way to get it passed:
“It’s hard to imagine a figure whose support of ColoradoCare is more meaningful than Senator Sanders.”
They could really use the Senator’s full support as in-state Democratic leaders have come out against the measure, intent on supporting incremental change to Obama’s current system rather than a radical change in the way we handle healthcare.
