Clearly spending time with Donald Trump has made Mike Pence more diabolical rather than less. During an interview with ABC, Pence explained that he very much admired the active role held by former Vice President and war criminal Dick Cheney.
Said Pence:
“I frankly hold Dick Cheney in really high regard in his role as Vice President and as an American.”
Pence was then asked by Martha Radditz if Cheney is the type of Vice President he would like to be.
“Well I think a very active Vice President. Vice President Cheney had experience in Congress as I do and he was very active in working with members of the House and the Senate.”
Pence is clearly using some careful language here to try to distance himself from the legacy of the Cheney period, but the message is clear: If I am vice president, I will have as much power as Trump will relinquish.
Considering Trump has already said that he would outsource most of his presidential duties, that means that Pence may as well be serving as commander-in-chief.
With this concerning possibility, shouldn’t we be taking a much closer look at Pence and what his leadership would look like? If we are take him at his word, we have already seen what Pence leadership might look like in the disastrous 8-year back-room rule by Cheney.
