Looking a bit like the walking dead – a clear metaphor for his deceased political career – Chris Christie slunk to his polling location early this morning to cast his secret ballot.
The New Jersey governor, who will likely emerge with no political career whatsoever from this trainwreck of a year, appeared at his polling location on Election Day at 6:06 a.m., just six minutes after the polling stop opened.
Christie breezed past a reporter who attempted to stop the governor for a quick interview. The reporter asked Christie why he was at the polls so early in the morning – while it was still dark out, in fact.
Christie replied, “I always vote in the morning.”
Christie may be telling the truth, but not the whole truth (he’s good at that).
The whole truth is that in the last seven years, Christie has never once cast a ballot before first informing the press of his intentions. The governor has taken questions and given interviews while participating in Democracy each time until now.
Why the change? One need not wonder. In this election year, Christie has gone from a decently respected Governor with presidential dreams to a rejected and failed candidate who became the object of national mockery – and scrutiny – for his lap-dog behavior with nominee Trump.
Rumors swirled throughout the election that Christie had been sent to retrieve McDonalds for Trump and his campaign, and Trump repeatedly appeared onstage with Christie, making comments about the governor’s weight and making many feel he was more of a hostage than a campaign buddy.
In the past few weeks, the legitimate scandal of Bridgegate has grown in the national eye, with proof from the DoJ that Christie had indeed had intimate knowledge of the planned disaster.
Now, all Christie can do is cast his ballot secretly in the night before disappearing into political obscurity forevermore.
