Weeks ago, Dr. Ben Carson’s spokesman Armstrong Williams admitted to the world that his client had absolutely no political experience, indicating that Carson would reject any cabinet position proposed by Trump due to this inadequacy.
At the time, we respected Carson for his self-awareness and hoped that Trump would move on to greener (and more alert) pastures.
Instead, Trump made it clear in the weeks since that he intends to make his good buddy Carson the Secretary of HUD, the department of Housing and Urban Development.
Despite having less than zero experience with city planning or any knowledge of appropriate housing regulations, Carson was officially nominated for the position on Monday.
Making a formal announcement about his decision, Trump said that he and Carson had spoken at length about Trump’s plans for the department
“We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities. Ben shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that this is a Presidency representing all Americans.”
Now is a good time to remember that during the primaries, Trump said that Carson was as morally and mentally deficient as a pedophile and openly mocked him during rallies.
Many guessed that Carson’s presidential hopes were based entirely on his wish to sell more books, but if he takes this position, it will mean that he steps up his political efforts into something legitimate.
The retired neurosurgeon appeared excited to accept the position, though it will need to be confirmed by the senate.
