During an interview at the Reagan National Defense Forum, former Vice President Dick Cheney spoke about Donald Trump’s social media habits, saying the media is only concerned because it threatens their careers.
As if the world of politics isn’t bad enough, the media has turned to Cheney to weigh in on the President-elect’s conduct in the weeks since he won the election.
Cheney, not giving a single negative word about the president-elect, said that he should be careful with what he posts, but that it doesn’t really matter much.
“I do think you need to be careful,” Cheney admitted. “But he’ll learn as he goes along. I think he is putting some brains and good people with him. I am a big fan of [Vice President-elect] Mike Pence.”
Cheney then went on to suggest that the reason the media cared so much about Trump’s Twitter behavior was because it might mean they will soon be out of a job.
“I think one of the reasons people get so concerned about the tweets is it’s sort of a way around the press. It’s modern era, modern technology. He’s at the point where we don’t need you guys anymore.”
Cheney might be correct if not for the vital need for fact-checking which the media still does a sufficient job at. We can’t rely on our president speaking directly to us when he is a pathological liar.
After a short laughter break, Cheney apologized for his remarks, clearly meaning no ill will toward the media.
I’m sure Cheney himself would have loved to have been rid of the media during his reign of terror. No accountability, no reflections from the other side – just talking straight to the American people and lying your face off about the presence of weapons of mass destruction.
