Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in a soon-to-be-aired interview, First Lady Michelle Obama shared her anxieties about the upcoming several years after an eight years emphasizing the terms “hope” and “change.”

Touching on what so many across the nation are feeling, Obama said that this general feeling of despair and fear is “what not having hope feels like.”

“Hope is necessary. It’s a necessary concept. And Barack didn’t talk about hope because he thought it was a nice slogan to get votes. I mean he and I and so many believe: what else do you have if you don’t have hope? What do you give your kids if you can’t give them hope.”

Michelle is possibly the most hopeful voice we can look to at this point in our history. For those who remember, though Barack is considered to be the wordsmith of the Obama family, Michelle’s DNC speech brought down the house in a totally unprecedented way.

Now that we’ve lost it all, will she be able to resurrect some of that hope in her husband’s final days in office? The interview, which is set to air on Monday on CBS, will no doubt touch on many more of Michelle’s poignant statements.
