Ever since the news broke about former Fox News ceo Roger Ailes career-long harassment and blackmailing of women, Fox powerhouse Megyn Kelly has been flirting with moving to another network.
It appears that the flirtation is over and that Kelly has chosen to move to NBC, saying goodbye to Fox News‘ right-wing slant for a more centrist approach.
Despite being offered as much as $20 million to stay at Fox, Kelly has chosen to move on to a new network despite earlier comments from NBC and others who said they could not match Fox’s offer.
Kelly was reportedly wooed to the network by a hefty three-tier offer. First, Kelly will be given her own daily political news and discussion show. She will also be given a Sunday night primetime spot, as well as being featured across the network in special political events and coverage. It is clear to see that NBC prizes Kelly’s starpower and intends to use her as much as possible.
Of course, the loss of Kelly is a major one to Fox News, leaving behind a massive hole that will need to be filled. Kelly’s viewership and ratings at Fox were second only to Bill O’Reilly and as of yet, there appears to be no rising star that might replace her.
The conservative network will no doubt struggle in the coming months and years as the reconcile their hate-filled rhetoric under a president they adore.
Kelly, who has long opposed Trump in big and small ways will likely be given free reign to go after the man without the meddling direction of Fox’s corporate owners. Though NBC has its own political bent, Kelly will likely find that her pursuit of Truth against Trump will be welcome there.
Time will tell whether Kelly truly does turn over a new leaf in her opposition to Trump, or if she will simply carry over the same Fox hate to a new network.
