Making it clear that becoming presidency is the prize for his hard work, not the beginning of the real work, President-elect Trump announced earlier this week that he plans to take the first weekend of his presidency off.
Surely, those same Republicans who never shut up about Obama playing golf will be outraged – no?
Apparently, Trump made his weekend plans apparent during an interview with the Times of London, saying that he considers the Monday after his inauguration to be his first day in office.
Apparently for those two days, the U.S. will be president-less. A key time for our enemies to take action considering that our nation will be without a leader?
“One of the first orders I’m gonna sign — day one — which I will consider to be Monday as opposed to Friday or Saturday. Right? I mean my day one is gonna be Monday because I don’t want to be signing and get it mixed up with lots of celebration, but one of the first orders we’re gonna be signing is gonna be strong borders.”
Of course, taking a couple of days to celebrate and spend time with family is not illegal, but the fact that Trump is choosing to make this the optics of his first days in office is concerning. Particularly because he created a sense of urgency during his campaign that he clearly does not intent to honor.
During Obama’s tenure, Trump was a frequent critic of how often Obama took time off and was out of the oval office.
During his campaign, Trump has also used his first day – and hour – in office to promise a multitude of executive orders and decisive actions to his supporters.
“On Day One, I am going to begin swiftly removing criminal illegal immigrants from this country,” he said during a speech in Des Moines back in August. “It’s going to happen within one hour after I take office.”
Guess that is just another lie from Trump we can add to the pile.
