On Monday morning, President Donald Trump continued his executive order free-for-all by signing yet another order, this time requiring that for each regulation added, two others must be rescinded.
Passing a regulation requiring that two regulations be revoked each time one new regulation is added sounds like the wild speculations of your uneducated uncle, and certainly not something that is practical in the actual government. And yet, the president just signed this clunky regulation into law.
As it turns out, repealing regulations is a messy business, and it won’t be anywhere near as simple as POTUS makes it out to be. The order will require that an agency who wishes to add another regulation must identify two regulations in its own department which could be cut in order to make room for the new rule.
The president declared that this new rule on regulation will make it easier for small businesses – and big businesses as well – to grow their business and succeed in America. That remains to be seen.
The president’s statement on the EO:
“This will be the biggest such act that our country has ever seen. There will be regulation, there will be control, but it will be normalized control.”
He did not clarify what “normalized control,” might mean.
