Today, the Senate is expected to finally hand down their decision on Donald Trump’s proposed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, but that may come to a grinding halt as it was just discovered that DeVos plagiarized her responses to a basic questionnaire.

In several places in the questionnaire – a set of questions put together by the Senate to discover exactly what DeVos stands for – it appears that DeVos ripped off responses from several different sources, including a civil rights official who served under the Obama Administration.

From the Washington Post:

“In one response, to a question about whether she would continue the practice of publishing a list of schools under Title IX civil rights investigations, DeVos said, “Opening a complaint for investigation in no way implies that the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has made a determination about the merits of the complaint.”

That language mirrors an Education Department website: “Opening a complaint for investigation in no way implies that OCR has made a determination with regard to the merits of the complaint.”

The article details several other instances as well. So many in fact that it is nearly impossible to believe that she did not steal these ideas and cite them unattributed.

Most in the Senate were already highly skeptical of DeVos, and according to Chuck Schumer, no Democratic Senators plan to vote for the nominee. Still, this new discovery will likely turn some conservatives, as well as Democrats, against the multi-millionaire.

Out of all of Trump’s deplorable picks, DeVos appears to be the most vehemently opposed from both elected officials and private citizens. Particularly, the Teacher’s Union has spoken out strong against DeVos for her support for charter schools. They fear that under her leadership, public school funding will shrink.
