Engaging in a bit more of “Alternative facts,” President Donald Trump made some clearly false assertions during one of his first appearances as Commander in Chief at a military event in the MacDill Air Force Base on Monday.
Speaking to the members of the armed forces as if they were clearly on his side, Trump bragged about his election win and then accused the “dishonest press,” of neglecting to truthfully report on instances of terror attacks in the U.S. and abroad.
Said Trump:
“All over Europe, it’s happening. And it’s gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported. In many cases, the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it. They have their reasons and you understand that.”
Anyone who knows the basics of media and news know that ignoring a terrorist attack is completely antithetical to what “news” is – after all, most of us know the callous catchphrase, “If it bleeds it leads.”
But President Trump would have the members of the military present believe that the “dishonest press” is so biased against Trump that they have overtly and deliberately ignored reporting on terror attacks in order to spite him.
At this point it feels necessary to point out that when a white terrorist opened fire on a Quebec mosque last week, Trump didn’t say a word. Days later when a Muslim man attempted an attack in France, the president posted a social media snipped almost immediately.
So truly, who is ignoring attacks here?
Watch.
