During initial hearings by the House Intelligence Committee into ongoing issues concerning Russia and their role in the 2016 election, FBI Director James Comey confirmed for the first time that the agency is in fact investigating possible ties between President Trump’s administration and Russian government officials.
Comey said during the hearing that he would not normally confirm an ongoing investigation, but due to overwhelming public interest, he would do so now.
Said Comey,
“I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere into the 2016 presidential election. And that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”
While Donald Trump accuses the Democratic party of inventing the Russian scandal to distract from their own election loss (likely true to a degree), it is good to see that other officials are taking seriously the claims.
After all, many of those who would love to see Trump ousted from office have remained skeptical of all Russian-hysteria stories due to their frequent lack of evidence. From the beginning, many of the claims made about Russian interference in the election as well as Russian relationships with Trump have been tenuous at best. The only real way to confirm such serious allegations is to conduct a real and thorough investigation.
It appears best for both sides that our FBI look into and fully investigate all alleged ties to determine what is true and what is false.
Watch.
