When 2016 was coming to a close, most celebrated the end of the contentious year, waving goodbye to the absurdity of the election and all that came with it. And yet though we are far from the election that brought us so much stress, there are so many absurd and hilarious events from 2016 that we would be amiss not to note them as they occurred.
Thus, today it is worth noting that it was just one year ago that Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz, slowly realizing that he was actually going to lose to Donald Trump, was discovered to be a big, crazy soup lover.
The story was simple, and came from Cruz’s wife Heidi – the same one that Trump insulted. According to Heidi, when she and her hubby were first married, one of the first actions her new husband took was to go to to the store and buy a whopping 100 cans of Chunky Campbell’s soup.
Cruz told his beloved that he knew she wouldn’t be making dinner, so he felt the massive soup purchase was justified. Heidi didn’t agree. The next morning, she loaded the car up with the 100 cans and returned every one to the store. She then consulted her mother to ensure she had made the right decision.
“And when I got home, I called my mother just to make sure I’d done the right thing as a newlywed. And she emphatically disagreed with me. And so when Ted opened the pantry, I had to quickly tell him that I would go back and buy those cans again.”
You really have to wonder what those poor grocery store clerks were thinking, lugging these 100 cans of soup back and forth at the Cruz’s whim.
See? Not all of 2016 was so bad – some of it was just really, really stupid.
