In an interview with the Economist, President Trump once again teased the public when he said that he may decide to release his tax returns after he is out of office – you know, when they are completely useless.
During the interview, Trump once again repeated the lie that only reporters are interested in the contents of his tax returns.
“Nobody cares about my tax return except for the reporters,” Trump said.
On the contrary, the large protests held across the country on Tax day in April seemed to make that lie appear clear enough.
“Oh, at some point I’ll release them. Maybe I’ll release them after I’m finished because I’m very proud of them, actually. I did a good job. I might release them after I’m out of office.”
Sticking with the old lie, Communications official Hope Hicks popped up in the interview to clarify the president’s remarks, saying “once the audit is over.”
Still, it is apparent to Trump and the rest of us that no one is about to force the POTUS to release his returns. Clearly, Trump has nothing to gain by releasing his returns, but likely a whole lot to lose.
Despite the protests and the calls for rationality, we elected Donald Trump without having seen his tax returns, and now it is too late.
