Playing the part of the spineless doormat, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has already weighed in on the testimony ongoing in the Senate by former FBI Director James Comey and defended Donald Trump.
One of the most shocking elements of Comey’s testimony was the repeated suggestion that Trump disrespected and attempted to overstep the necessary separation between the presidency and the FBI.
While some tried to claim that Trump’s demand for Comey’s loyalty was a good thing, most recognize, as Comey outlined, the importance of having an FBI director who is not friends with the man he may have to investigate.
In response to Trump’s demand that Comey pledge loyalty, Ryan excused the President’s inappropriate action by appealing to his newness on the job.
“He’s just new to this,” Ryan said, as if that was ever an appropriate defense.

On Wednesday, Ryan preceded his claim by saying that it was “obviously” inappropriate for the President to make such a request of the FBI director, but that his shiny new presidency was sometimes confusing for the orange businessman.
“FBI directors are supposed to be independent, that’s something that’s very, very critical.”
To be clear, it is not ever acceptable for the President of the United States to make such a major misstep under the guise of “newness.” Trump is surrounded by advisers and people who could tell him everything and anything he needs to know.
Instead, he chooses to sit before the television or in a golf cart and continue to disrespect his political office at the detriment of America. And why wouldn’t he continue to do so with spineless enablers like Paul Ryan coming to his defense at every turn?
Thankfully, ignorance of the law is no excuse, and whether or not Trump should know better by now doesn’t matter – if he violated laws while in the capacity of the Presidency, he must be excised. Whether through corruption or incompetence, evil or stupidity, a crime is a crime.
