Trump has decided to get away to his Mar-A-Lago golf course for a weekend getaway, and under a little-known Florida law, we could have him involuntarily committed to a mental hospital for a 72-hour psychological evaluation. Any volunteers? Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

As anybody who has accepted a new job working in the United States knows, usually you’re kind of put on some kind of probation during which time you can’t call in sick, you can’t take a vacation. That seems to be standard operating procedure. Anytime you take a new job, it looks bad if you immediately take a vacation within your first couple of weeks. But that is exactly what Donald Trump is doing this weekend. He is heading on a trip down to Florida, to his Mar-a-Lago Resort. A trip that’s going to cost American taxpayers about $3 million.
That’s all irrelevant. Here is an interesting little fact for people who are not familiar with the crazy state of Florida. We actually do have a law in the state of Florida- it’s called the Baker Act- that allows you to have someone involuntary committed to a mental hospital for 72 hour psychological evaluation. You can do this if this person indicates in any way that they present a harm to themselves or to others. This is a way to make sure that they are not mentally ill, and I think Trump fits the criteria for this Baker Act while he’s here in Florida.
I hope someone tries to have him Baker Acted, to put under this 72 hour psychological evaluation hold. I don’t know if you can do it to a sitting president, but it would be fun to try. Because when you look at the evidence, it is very clear that what Donald Trump is doing as president is going to get people killed. I’m not just talking about the Navy Seal who died in Trump’s ill-advised offensive this week over in the Middle East. I’m talking about his repeal of regulations, his desire to repeal Obamacare, that we know will kill 43,000 people in the United States every single year at least. We know that wanting to repeal President Obama’s coal power plant emissions rule is going to result in more people dying from respiratory illnesses. Donald Trump is a physical threat to people in the United States. His denial of climate change could get people killed. It will certainly put people in harm’s way. His desire to do away with the Environmental Protection Agency only furthers that danger of denying climate change.
So, yes, Donald Trump is a threat to citizens of the United States, and it is time that we have this man evaluated by professionals. To be perfectly honest with you, this is something that should be standard practice for anyone seeking the office of the presidency. Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green Party, whoever. We need to make sure that these people truly are mentally competent. We need to have it for House Representatives and Senators. Think of all the jobs we could create in the mental health industry simply by making these people undergo involuntary psychological evaluations. It could actually help save lives in this country. It could prevent some of the truly dangerous people in Washington, DC from ever returning to that city. People like Ted Cruz and Jim Inhofe. We could have gotten rid of Michele Bachmann a long time ago. Sarah Palin never would have made it to the Vice Presidential ticket.
We need psychological evaluations, and it’s not just to make fun of people. It’s to prevent truly dangerous people like Donald Trump from ever being in a position where they can harm American citizens with their arrogance and their greed.
