The GOP has a new dastardly tactic up their sleeve. This time, they’re rolling out websites that present themselves as reputable news outlets. The sites serve as platforms for the party to disseminate politically charged information under the guise of fair and balanced news. It is anything but.
The websites, like this one, have the full appearance of a trusted news outlet. Unfortunately, the only way they get people to their site is through the use of paid advertising on search engines.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), responsible for growing the GOP in the House of Representatives, is behind a number of these tactics. When asked why, the NRCC’s communications director went on the record as stating, “This is a new and effective way to disseminate information to voters who are interested in learning the truth about these Democratic candidates.”
According to Salon, the NRCC even has gone so far as to brag about the tactics to donors, stating:
“After the NRCC launched three such sites, including one targeting New York Democratic congressional candidate Sean Eldridge, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Georgia, deputy chairman of the NRCC, wrote in a September fundraising pitch to donors, “We ruined three Democrats’ campaign launches last week and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (Pelosi’s campaign machine) couldn’t be more upset.”
What’s obvious is that the GOP is in trouble and will resort to outright trickery to try and win at any cost. This isn’t a party that wants to govern fairly; this isn’t a party that wants to govern justly; this isn’t a party that is even interested in governing anymore.
It’s a party that is only interested in winning. No matter what the cost.
