“Shock and Awe” is back, at least if Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has his way.

In an interview with ABC News, the Tea Party back Republican suggested that the best foreign policy for dealing with the Islamic militant group ISIS was to launch and “overwhelming air campaign” to “bomb them back to the Stone Age.”

“What we ought to do is have a direct, concerted, overwhelming air campaign to take them out,” Cruz told ABC’s Jeff Zeleny in an interview that was broadcast on Sunday.

Cruz suggested that the bombing campaign could even extend into Syria, but “the objective should not be to resolve the civil war” in that country.

Zeleny pointed out that Cruz had recently called for President Barack Obama to “bomb [ISIS] back to the Stone Age.”

However, Cruz said that the president “absolutely” had to get congressional approval before the bombing campaign began.

“I think it is an urgent concern to strike while ISIS is vulnerable,” Cruz opined.
