Former Vice President Dick Cheney, the biggest supporter of the Iraq War, said what he thinks President Obama should do in Iraq: full frontal assault, which was a terrible idea when Bush was in office, and is a terrible idea now.
“A realistic strategy has to recognize that ISIS is a grave, strategic threat to the United States,” said Cheney. “The situation is dire and defeating these terrorists will require immediate, sustained, simultaneous action across multiple fronts. Phasing in our actions will not suffice. Such a strategy will only prolong the conflict and increase the casualties.”
Cheney made these comments while speaking at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington D.C. while Obama prepares to make a national primetime address to the American people tonight, reported The Huffington Post. Cheney keeps pushing the idea that America is immensely unsafe and vulnerable to some kind of terrorist attack, more so since 9/11.
“They watch what our leaders do, the enemies of America, and they listen to what our leaders say,” said Cheney. “And a few of our most single-minded enemies might well have wondered why, in recent years, President Obama was talking about the terrorists being on the run, in retreat, when precisely the opposite was happening.”
Cheney is one to talk about opposites as he was the one who insisted that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction while there were none. The former VP is using the same mass scare tactics to garner public support for full assault against ISIS that he used over a decade ago.
Cheney is singing the same song he once did over a decade ago. Contrary to what Cheney said, his strategy, the same one used in Iraq, is the one that will “prolong the conflict and increase casualties.” America can ill-afford another decade-long military debacle.
