Americans are addicted to the lottery. It produces over $68 billion in sales annually. John Oliver examined how the lottery sells happy futures to lower income individuals. The reason, according to Oliver, is that the lottery is sold as helping education and such. Not only does the lotto make people feel like they’re putting their dollars toward positive ends but it is also insanely addictive.
