Rush Limbaugh went on Fox News Sunday to share his take on the tragic death of Eric Garner. Limbaugh took a position that the police at the scene that day had little to do with the death of Eric Garner. In fact, Limbaugh said, the real tragedy of the death of Garner wasn’t that the man died as the result of an illegal chokehold. The real tragedy, according to Limbaugh, was the police being tasked with such strict enforcement of tax laws.
When asked to explain the resulting protests, Limbaugh had doubts as to their legitimacy.
“It’s not based on real world grievance. It’s grievance that’s being amplified and made up.”
Fox News host Chris Wallace disputed Limbaugh’s premise that Garner wasn’t placed in a chokehold.
“What are you talking about that it’s not a chokehold?”
Limbaugh answered, “I’m listening to experts in police departments around the country that I know tell me it’s not a chokehold. It might have been a carotid restriction, but it was not a chokehold.”
