During an interview with MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) was asked if he was smart enough to to be president. Despite his attempt to appear as an intellectual with his smart-guy glasses, Perry never said “yes, I am smart enough.” He simply danced around the question with an answer only a politician could give.
“Running for the presidency’s not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual’s resolve. It’s a test of an individual’s philosophy. It’s a test of an individual’s life experiences. And I think Americans are really ready for a leader that will give them a great hope about the future.”
Hunt also asked Perry if he stood by his previous comments about George W. Bush not being a true “fiscal conservative.”
In another non-answer, Perry responded, “I go back and just look at our records and my observation is that… and I was making a, uh, distinction between myself and W…”
With his degree in animal science, Perry isn’t exactly an economic expert, a fact demonstrated by Texas’s growing income inequality which is now the seventh worst in the country.
Perry also said that after his “oops” moment in the 2012 presidential debate that he still has some margin of error, but that his is probably smaller than other candidates.
No matter how many questions he tries to not answer or how many pairs of glasses he throws on, Rick Perry has shown time and time again that no, he is definitely not smart enough to run for president.
