An NYPD officer turned himself in yesterday, a week after he physically assaulted a female Metropolitan Transit Authority worker, reported Raw Story.
After the officer turned himself in on New Year’s Day, internal investigations is looking into the incident. A surveillance camera in the New York subway filmed the officer leaving the scene of the attack, smiling.
The 28-year-old victim reported that the attacking police officer grabbed her neck and choked her. She was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The Harlem precinct of the NYPD identified the attacker as being a city police officer, but the department refused to release his identity.
With all the social upheaval going on around the actions of NYPD, this is the last thing that needs to happen. There is already a great divide between the police and the people they’re supposed to serve and protect, and this incident will surely widen that divide.
