Former Arkansas Governor and Fox News contributor Mike Huckabee made an absurd comparison between the Islamic State and the world’s climate change crisis, reported Salon. Huckabee made the comments on Monday after the president’s address at the National Prayer Breakfast.
“Everything Obama does is against what Christians stand for,” said Huckabee. “He’s against the Jews in Israel. The one people who can know that they have his undying, unfailing support would be the Muslim community, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s the radical Muslim community or the more moderate Muslim community.”
We can all agree that Huckabee’s claims are a big stretch. He speaks as if President Obama is actually aiding the Islamic State, which he’s not. With all the Islamophobia running rampant through the country, Obama and other officials are just making sure people are using their heads to not conflate radical terrorists and everyday Muslims.
Then Huckabee’s comments get even stranger. Obama noted that climate change is a national security threat, as has several ranking members of the US Department of Defense. That’s when Huckabee tried to compared IS and climate change, two completely different yet important issues.
“I assure you that a beheading is much worse that a sunburn,” said Huckabee. “And this president couldn’t watch a Western from the 50s and know the difference between the good guys and the bad guys even if John Wayne was starring in the film.”
There are just so many things wrong with that statement. Climate change would cause more worldwide harm than just a sunburn, and IS an active military threat. Also, what do old Western films have to do with any of this? Huckabee, this makes no sense at all.
