An open-carry advocate in Texas recently filmed an encounter he had with Houston Police regarding his walking down the street with a rifle on his hip.
Instead of capturing a violation of his Second Amendment rights, what he recorded was a police officer reasonably enforcing the law.
The officer repeatedly asked the man if he had identification, telling him that he was ‘on his side’ regarding Texas’ open-carry laws. He even told the man that he had no problem with him filming their encounter. When the man told him that he “did not consent to questioning” and could not produce an ID, the officer placed him in handcuffs.
The officer pointed out that while, yes, the man did have the right to carry a rifle down the street in Texas, he had to do so within the parameters of the law, meaning proper identification.
“How am I supposed to know if you’re a felon?” the officer asked.
