A sheriff’s deputy with the Jackson County, Mississippi Sheriff’s Department was fired after threatening and using racial slurs against a black man, reported The Clarion-Ledger.
Deputy Michael Slater was released from his job after a video showing the incident was uploaded to YouTube. The incident occurred during an online session on the XBox Live gamer community while “David,” the man who recorded the video, and Slater got into a heated argument.
David says in the video that his threats and insults were made because he was only attempting to “troll” other players on XBox Live. Slater gives out his own address, name, and badge number during the argument and said “You are about to come to a f*cking paid police officer’s house. I get paid to beat up n*ggers like you.”
David muted out Slater’s address and badge number, but left in audio where Slater said he lives in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Slater had been with the sheriff’s office for three years before being fired today. In response, Jackson County Sheriff spokesperson Sherie Ward said “We don’t condone that type of behavior or language.”
